Handcrafted by expert carvers and made from Bovine Bone. The Club (Wahaika), translating to “mouth of the fish”, with its great size and obvious intelligence played an important part in the culture of the Maori people. It signifies high status, authority, and leadership (rangatira), often passed down as a treasured family heirloom (taonga) or gifted to represent honor and leadership. Carved figures on the edge signify the weapon’s spiritual power and supernatural protection. It usually faces the holder, believed to watch over the warrior’s back.
